The tourism industry accounts for more than half the the islands national GDP and has also assisted in the boom of construction of many new hotels and resorts. Most of the population are employed in the tourism industry followed closely by the service industry. The agricultural industry is rather low and employs just five percent of the population. The main industy trades are tourism, banking, cement, oil transshipment, salt, rum, aragonite, pharmaceuticals, and spiral-welded steel pipe. The Bahamas mainly exports mineral products and salf, animal products, rum, chemicals as well as fruit and vegetables. The official currency of the Bahamas is the Bahamian Dollar.
