BanguiGeneral Information about BanguiBangui is the capital and largest city of the Central African Republic. Bangui lies on the northern banks or the Ubangi River which marks the border between the Central African Republic and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Bangui has a population of more than 622,700 people. Most of the Central African Repubic's population live in or near the city of Bangui. The most commonly spoken languages in the city are Sango and French.
The city centre which lies near the river features the Presidential Palace and the central market.. Not far from here is the residential heart of Bangui. This is also where the largest market is found as well as most of the city's nightlife. Towards the north of Bangui lie rolling hills.
Places of interest to see in Bangui include the Musee de Boganda (Boganda Museum) which features many precious artifacts from Central African Republic's history as well as a vast collection of traditional musical instruments and the Place de la Republique, which lies at the centre of Bangui and is where a large white arch was built as a monument to Jean-Bedel Bokassa- the corrupt dictator who was overthrown in the late 1970's.
Also in Bangui is the Marche Central (Central Market) which is the city's central marketplace and lies a few blocks away from Bangui's main port. Five kilometres outside of the city centre is the K-Cinq, or Km 5 Intersection. Due to the bars, restaurants, public transport and nightlife activities, K-Cinq is regarded as the true heart of Bangui. BACK TO TOP |
