AricaGeneral Information about AricaArica which was officially established back in 1541 can be found at the Northern end of Chile. Up until 1880 Arica was originally a city of Peru in South America, when ownership was transferred between Chile and Peru as a result of the War of the Pacific and the battle of Arica. One of the best ways to learn about Arica's role in the War of the Pacific is by exploring through the Museo Historico y de Armas. Here you will be able to view an interesting collection of memorabilia from this battle.
Arica is home to over 200,000 residents and features a number of popular beaches which are known as Playa El Laucho, Playa Brava, Playa La Lisera and Play Corazones. Rainfall in Arica is minimal so much so that Arica is well known for receiving the world's least amount of rainfall with as little as three inches of precipitation falling each year. One of Arica's most popular historical buildings is the Cathedral of San Marcos which is known locally as Iglesia San Marco.
Featuring influences of Gothic architecture the Iglesia San Marco is well known as being built by Gustave Eiffel who of course famously built and designed the Eiffel Tower in Paris. You can either choose to travel to Arica via train or bus with regular trains and buses arriving from Peru and Bolivia.
