Iquique

General Information about Iquique

Iquique which was first inhabited by native South Americans known as Changos is located at the northern parts of Chile. Iquique is home to over 216,400 residents and is ideally set along the Pacific Coast within the region of Tarapaca. Iquique is closely neighboured by the city of Arica and Calama and is well known for its duty-free status within the commercial port centre.

Well known for being located near the Atacama Desert the city of Iquique is home to a variety of beautiful beaches with the most well known being Playa Cavancha and Playa Brava. Surfing is a popular passtime at Playa Cavancha while Playa Brava is more well known for its sand dunes near Cerro Dragons.

Iquique boasts a number of casinos which are the Croatian Casino and the Spanish Casino but a popular tourist destination is the ever popular Baquedano Street. Another well visited destination is the Museo Regional also known as the Regional Museum which boasts a variety of Indian and pre-Columbian exhibitions. The best way of travelling to Iquique is by bus with regular buses arriving from many destinations such as Santiago, Arica, and Bolivia.
