Punta ArenasGeneral Information about Punta ArenasPunta Arenas which was first inhabited back in 1843 can be fount at the Southern most part of Chile. Punta Arenas is ideally located along the Strait of Magellan and boasts a population of over 130,000 residents. Also located along the Brunswick Peninsula Punta Arenas can be found within the region of Magallanes y la Antartica Chilena region. Punta Arenas is also the capital of this region and is known for its close proximity to the coast of Antarctica.
Punta Arenas offers its visitors a wide range of activities and visiting the local museum is one of the better ways to learn about the city's history. Known by the locals as Museo Regional Salesiano Mayorino Borgatello the museum features exhibitions from many natural historical artefacts. Another well visited museum is the Naval and maritime Museum which is home to a variety of war ships from as far back as 1908.
Your trip to Punta Arenas would not be complete without visiting the nearby Torres del Paine National Park. Found within the Chilean Patagonia region the Cerro Paine Grande is the highest point in the National Park rising to 3,050 metres. Hiking is the most popular activity and is worth visiting just for the spectacular views.
