Santiago

General Information about Santiago

Set within the Santiago Basin Chile's capital Santiago is home to approximately six million people. Santiago has been inhabited since as far back as 1541 and filled with many historical and beautiful monuments. Santiago also is close to some of the world's most popular ski resorts that are definitely worth visiting.

Some of the ski resorts that should be visited are Farellones, Valle Nevado, and La Parva. If skiing is not for you then there are a great deal of activities to keep you on your toes. Try visiting the National Museum of Fine Arts which is the oldest museum in all of South America. The Plaza de Armas is the city's town square where you will be able to wander through and view many churches and monuments.

One of the best ways to see all of Santiago is by visiting Parque Metropolitano with access to the top being gained by cable car or hiking. Visiting the Presidential Palace which is known as La Moneda Palace is a real treat with free tours, although you will need to book at least two weeks in advance.

Getting to Santiago is easy with regular flights landing into the city. There are many places where you can go to pick up some souvenir's to take home.
