The city of Luoyang which gains its name from the Luo River has been known by many other names throughout history such as Luoyi, Jingluo and Dongdu. The site where Luoyang sits today has been inhabited by many ancient civilizations but also played an important role as the capital city for the Eastern Han Dynasty and the Northern Wei Dynasty. Luoyang which is located within the province of Henan in central China and boasts a population of over 6,384,000 residents.

A must see when visiting Luoyang is the city's famous Longmen Grottoes which are today listed as a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO. The Longmen Grottoes feature an fascinating display of more than 100,000 Buddha's that were carved within the many caves and niches of Mount Longmen back in 493 A.D. Another well known attraction worth exploring while you are visiting Luoyang ist the Temple of the White Horses which is thought to be China's oldest Buddhist temple.
