General Information about Avarua

The capital city of the Cook Islands can be found on the main island of Raratonga. Avarua which is home to over 2,600 people and can be found on the north coast of the island. Because Avarua is home to numerous beautiful beaches visiting here is the ideal getaway destination.

Avarua offers many outdoor activities ranging from scuba diving to snorkelling to hiking through some of the islands pleasant bush walks. One of the most visited destinations is the Needle and Cross-Island Walk which is the best way to view some of the island's countryside.

Also while visiting Avarua you will be able to purchase some hand crafted souvenir's with many being made with pearls and gemstones. Avarua offers a range of restaurants to choose from as well as some friendly bars. Access to the island is easy with regular flights landing at the international airport and is fast becoming a popular stop over destination.
