Havana

General Information about Havana

Havana which is home to a population of over two million people is the capital city of Cuba. Havana features three beautiful harbours of Marimelena, Guanabaco and Atares and is often described as three cities in one. Havana which has been inhabited since 1509 is a beautiful city with many historical buildings.

The architecture of Havana is a mix of old new with many churches, fortresses, palaces and museums. There are many national monuments that should definitely be visited while at Havana and if you are a fan of the arts then a trip to the Great Theatre of Havana should not be missed. The Grand Theatre was built back in 1837 and was opened to the public in 1838 hosts a wide variety of performances throughout the year.

If you enjoy going to museums then the Colon Cemetery will be like no other. The Colon Cemetery is an open aired museum that features many chapels and family vaults as well as a spectacular monument that is a staggering 75 feet high.

A trip to Havana would not be complete without taking a tour of the cigar factory which can be found just behind the Capital Building where the Museum of the Revolution is situated. There is always plenty of live music to be heard at Havana as well as a fine selection of restaurants and cafes to choose from.
