Hurghada

General Information about Hurghada

The city of Hurghada was founded in the 20th century and remained a small fishing village until the 1980's. Since then it had grown into one of the most popular tourist destinations in Egypt and is home to more than 40,000 people. The city stretches 40 kilometres along the coastline of the Red Sea, but does not reach very far at all into the desert. Hurghada's daily temperature hovers around 30 degrees celsius during most parts of the year and is a very popular place for Europeans to spend their Christmas and New Years holidays.

Hurghada is primarily a resort town with many resorts to choose from. Most of these have a 3 to 5 star rating and are all situated along the coast of the Red Sea. Most of the hotels in Hurghada feature dive centres as the city is most frequented by people wishing to dive and explore the areas under water world.

Glass bottom boats are one of the most popular boats to see the surrounding underwater areas of Hurghada. The coral reefs and aquatic life here are known to be among the most beautiful in the world.

There are also many excursions and tours which depart from Hurghada, such as those to other popular Egyptian cities Cairo and Luxor. There are also various jeep and quad bike desert adventures which start in Hurghada.
