EconomyLearn About The Economy In El SalvadorEl Salvador has the third largest economy in Central America. Coffee was the only source of foreign exchange in El Salvador for many decades until the late 1990's when the international prices for coffee fell. El Salvador had also suffered through a civil war in the 1980's so the government was forced to focus the economy in a new direction. The maquila industry provides many jobs for the El Salvadorians and is a major exporter of clothing to the United States.
