General Information about San Salvador

El Salvador's capital of San Salvador is the second largest city in Central America with a population of over two million people. San Salvador has been inhabited since as far back as 1525 and is situated within the Valley of the Hammocks.

The city of San Salvador features many monuments as well as a variety of boulevards. Be sure to visit the National Palace and the Monumento a El Salvador del Mundo which means Monument to the Saviour of The World. Some of the boulevards to visit while you are there is the Boulevard de los Heroes and the Boulevard de los Proceres.

San Salvador also is home to some interesting museums that should definitely be visited. The most popular museums visited by tourists are Museo David J Guzman and Museo de Arte Marte. If your a fan of the theatre then the Teatro Presidente will be well worth the trip.

There are also a wide choice of restaurants to visit as well as a happening night life. Getting to San Salvador is simple with the Comalapa Airport being located approximately 45 minutes away from the city.
