Located in Africa, Ethiopia is an landlocked country bordering Eritrea, Djibouti, Somalia, Kenya and Sudan. It has a population of 76,511,887 and four official languages - Arabic, Amharic, Tigrinya and Oromo.

Addis Ababa is Ethiopia's capital city and is home to five million people. There are two museums worth visiting here, one of which houses the fossils of 3.5 million year old 'Lucy' who could be one of our earliest ancestors.

Because Ethiopia is situated between the Equator and the Tropic of cancer the seasons are reversed. September is the beginning of spring flowing into summer in January until March. Ethiopia experiences three main seasons of a cool zone with average highs of 16 degrees down to freezing. The Temperated Zone brings averages of 16 to 30 degrees while the Hot Zone can be quiet unbearable with temperatures rising as high as 50 degrees. The best months to visit are from October to May while June to September brings the rainy season.

Because of Ethiopia's seperation from Eritrea back in 1993 the country no longer has a coastline of its own, however they are blessed with a number of rivers including the Blue Nile which rises from Lake Tana. The total land mass of Ethiopia measures in at 1,127,127 square kilometres and can be compared to the size of Britain and France put together. Ethiopia is the largest country within the Horn of Africa and its highest point is Ras Dashen which measures over 4,620 metres.

Ethiopia's economy is one of the poorest and least developed countries in the world. Most of the economy revolves around the agriculture industry bringing in over 55 percent of the economy, with over 80 percent of the population being employed. However the countries frequent droughts does have a strong impact on the economy. The main exports are coffee leather products, oilseeds and gold. Ethiopia's government owns all of the land and only provides long-term leases to its tenants. The offical currency is the Birr.
