The Falkland Islands are an overseas territory of the United Kingdom and have a population of just over 3,000 people. The official language spoken in the Falkland Islands is English. There are a variety of religions followed by the Falkland Islanders including Anglican, Roman Catholic, Jehovah's Witness and Seventh-Day Adventist. The capital and largest city of the Falkland Islands is Stanley which is located on East Falkland island and has a population of around 2,000 people.
Stanley's most famous landmark is the Christ Church Cathedral. The cathedral is made of stone and brick and features a wall with plaques honoring the men who served in the British forces during both World Wars. The Falklands Museum, also in Stanley, houses artifacts from everyday life in the Islands as well as the Antarctic research house from the 1950's, the Reclus Hut. The Lady Elizabeth shipwreck is another of Stanley's popular sites. This ship's last visit to Stanley was in 1913 when it hit the Uranie Rock.
