Basse-Terre has been inhabited since 1643 and is home to a population over 45,000. Basse-Terre features a variety of historical buildings with many buildings featuring colonial type architecture.
While you are there be sure to visit the Cathedral of Saint Peter and Saint Paul which was built back in the 19th century. The Vieux Fort is the best place to go for excellent views which features a lighthouse with views of the Les Saintes islands and the Dominica Island.
