The official language spoken in Honduras is Spanish but some Amerindian dialects are also apoken throughout the nation. 97% of the Honduran population are Roman Catholic but there is also a small minority following of Protestantism.
The BasÃlica de Suyapa is an important religious site in Honduras. Situated in Tegucigalpa, construction on this basilica was started in 1954 and finishing touches are still being added to this day. The tiny statue of La Virgen de Suyapa, the patron saint of Central America is brought to the BasÃlica de Suyapa on holidays and many believe she has performed hundreds of miracles. Unfortunately, the hurricane virtually wiped out the whole industry. The banana industry is slowly recovering and is now again one of the most important exports along with coffee and cultivated shrimp. Other major agricultral exports include corn, beef, timber and citrus. The most important industries in Honduras are cothing, wood products and sugar and coffee industries.
