Hong Kong is located in southeast Asia and is bordered by China to the north and the South China Sea to the south, east and west. Along with Macau, Hong Kong is a special administrative region of the People's Republic of China. Hong Kong has a population of just under 7 million people who speak either Chinese Cantonese or Chinese Mandarin. English is also spoken. A mixture of local religions account for 90% of the population while 10% follow Christinity.

Hong Kong has no capital city but it's most populated district is Sha Tin District which is home to around 630,000 people. Hong Kong has a few religious spots that are well worth a visit. The 10,000 Buddhas Monastery on Po Fook Hill in Sha Tin is a temple that was built in the 1950's and actually does contain over 10,000 Buddhas. Sha Tin also has the Che Kung Temple which is a large Taoist complex.

Hong Kong's climate is typically sub-tropical with four main seasons throughout the year. The weather is highly influenced by the north to north east monsoon type conditions in both winter and summer. Autumn is the best time to visit particularly in October and November where the weather conditions are generally mild. The Summer months are usually hot with rain falling between June and August with temperatures ranging between 26-34 degrees with thunderstorms being common. Humidity is high during summer and is particularly higher in the evenings. December through to February are usually overcast with averages between 7-15 degrees.

Victoria Harbour set between Kowloon Peninsula and Hong Kong Island is one of the deepest maitime ports in the world. The terrain of Hong Kong is mainly mountainous and hilly along with steep slopes with lowlands in the north. The highest point in Hong Kong is Tai Mo Shan which means Big Hat Mountain with rises to over 958 metres and can be found within the New Territories.
