BaghdadGeneral Information about BaghdadIraq's capital city of Baghdad is divided into two sections by the Tigris River. The eastern side is known as 'Risafa' while the western is 'Karkh'. Baghdad which has several meanings such as 'God's Gift' and 'The Given Garden' is home to over 7,000,000 and is the second largest city in the Arab World.
Unfortunately because of the recent war that has been taken place in Iraq visiting this city is not recommended. This is sad because there is so much to see and do in this ancient city, with its countless historical buildings and monuments. In fact many of the city's historical buildings were looting during the war in 2003 such as the National Museum of Iraq and the National Theatre of Iraq. BACK TO TOP |
