Petra

General Information about Petra

Petra which is well known as being listed as a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO can be found within the region of Arabah. Most recently Petra has been placed on the map for being awarded a place in the New Wonders of the World list. Featuring spectacular views from the nearby Mount Hor, the city of Petra is best described as being an archaeological site. Petra is also closely neighboured by the Israel border near Eilat.

One of Petra's most well known historical sites is known as al-Siq which varies in height at a range of 300 to 600 feet. Often referred to as just Siq, this interesting site features a gorge that is just three metres wide.

Your trip to Petra would not be complete without visiting The Monastery. The Monastery is very impressive to look at and is thought to have been built during the 1st century. Also worth visiting is Petra's ancient amphitheatre and was built near the en-Nejr Mountain. There is no airport in Petra so the best way of travelling to this fascinating city is either via bus or mini bus with regular buses arriving from Eilat.
