General Information about Malé

Maldives capital of Malé can be found on the Kaafu Atoll along the southern end of the atoll. Malé is home to approximately 80,000 people over the small island which is just 1.7 kilometres long and 1 kilometres wide. Because of the size of Malé it is possible to walk around the island in just one hour.

Malé is not as popular as other parts of the Maldives and has gone through some hard times from the tsunami in the Indian Ocean in 2004. There are a few interesting things to see while you are at Malé with the Islamic Centre being one of most popular destinations. Here you will be able to view the largest mosque in the Maldives. One of the best ways to learn about Malé is by visiting the Sultan Park and National Museum which was originally the Sultan's palace.

The Malé International Airport is situated on the island of Hulhule where you can either travel to Malé by speedbooat or plane.
