General Information about Mexico

Mexico is a country located in Central America that is bordered by the United States Of America to the north, the Gulf Of Mexico to the east, Belize and Guatemala to the southeast and the Pacific Ocean to the south and west. Mexico is the 11th most populated country in the world with an estimated population of over 106 million people.
The official language spoken in Mexico is Spanish, making Mexico the world's most populated Spanish-speaking country. English is also widely spoken in Mexico as well as some indigenous languages. 89% of the Mexican population are Roman Catholic and 5% of the population are Protestant. After Brazil, Mexico has the largest Catholic population. Mexico's capital and largest city Mexico City is the 12th most populated city in the world, being home to more than 8 million people.

Mexico has many archaeological sites such as El Tajín. The ruins of El Tajín are among the most impressive of the ancient Veracruz civilisation and date back to AD 600. Palenque is another popular archaeological site to visit. Palenque is a jungle city with wonderful Mayan architecture. Many of the buildings here date back to AD 600 or AD 700, including the largest building, the Temple of Inscriptions pyramid crypt. Teotihuacán is another of Mexico's fabulous sites. Teotihuacán is situated near the Valle de México and is home to the Pirámides del Sol y de la Luna (Pyramids of the Sun and Moon). The Pyramid of the Sun is the world's third largest pyramid.
