PlymouthGeneral Information about PlymouthPlymouth which was the capital of Montserrat was completely destroyed by the severe disruptions of the Soufriere Hills Volcano in 1997. Eruptions of the volcano began back in 1995 and the city was evacuated in August of that year.
The residents of Plymouth returned in June 1997 only to endure a horrendous explosion that killed up to 19 people. The city is now abandoned with the town of Brades being the unofficial capital of Montserrat.
Brades is situated at the North West end of Montserrat and is home to just over one thousand people. The main language spoken at Brades is English. The best way to get to Brades is by plane with the airport with most flights arriving from Antiqua and St Maarten. BACK TO TOP |
