Lifou IslandGeneral Information about Lifou IslandNestled within the Pacific Ocean and belonging to the archipelago known as Loyalty Islands is the beautiful Lifou Island. The Loyalty Islands consists of six islands in total with the closest island to Lifou Island being the Tiga Island followed by Ouvea Island, Faiava Island, Maré Island and Mouli Island. Lifou Island is the largest island of the group with the main town being known as Wé.
The population of Lifou Island is over 10,000 residents and it is the island's perfect white beaches that draws its many visitors. Lifou Island is a French Overseas Territory and is also close neighbours with New Caledonia. The island itself originated from a partially submerged volcano and is known as a Makatea which is an ancient lagoon that has raised over time. Many cruise ships from Australia and other country's travel to Lifou Island's Sandalwood Bay. Lifou Island is easily accessed with regular flights arriving at the Wanaham Airport.
