Nigeria is located in western Africa bordered by Niger to the north, Chad to the north-east, Cameroon to the west/south-west, Benin to the east and the Gulf Of Guinea to the south. Nigeria is the 8th most populated country in the world with over 145,000,000 people living there. Abuja, Nigeria's capital city is home to around 500,000 people.

There are more than 250 ethnic groups living together in Nigeria, most following either Islam or Christianity. English is the official language spoken in Nigeria but other Nigerian langauges such as Hausa and Yoruba are also spoken.

One of the most popular places to visit in Nigeria is the Muslim city Kano, the oldest town in western Africa. Kano sits on the edge of the Sahara desert and features Emir's palace and the Central Mosque. Although the mosque is close to those who don't follow Islam it is definately worth seeing.

Set in a tropical zone Nigeria's climate is usually hot all year round this is mainly because of its location the equator. Nigeria has two main seasons a wet and a dry season. From April until October the rain begins to set in and is particularly high along the south east coast receiving as much as 130 inches. The summer months are hot with February and March being the hottest months to visit with highs of 38 degrees. Nigeria also experiences a dusty harmatton wind that blows in from the north east across the Arabian peninsula until it reaches the Sahara desert.

Nigeria's highest peak is Chappal Waddi and is over 2,419 metres high which is situated in the state of Teraba near the border of Cameroon. Much of Nigeria's countryside is mountainous especially in the south east with plains in the north, as well as lowlands in the south that merge into central hills and plateaus.

Nigeria has a wealth of oil but the finances do not filter through the population, mainly because of corruption. The agricultural industry provides over 30 percent of the economy which employs over 50 percent of the population. Over 34 percent of the population are living under the poverty line with Nigeria receiving financial aid from many countries. The official currency is the Naira.
