ParaguayGeneral Information about ParaguayParaguay is a landlocked country that is located in the centre of South America. Paraguay is bordered by Bolivia to the northwest, Brazil to the northeast and east and Argentina to the south and southwest. Paraguay has a population of just over 6.5 million people and is one of the least populated and least visited countries in Latin America. The official languages spoken in Paraguay are Spanish and Guarani. Almost 90% of the Paraguayan population are Roman Catholic but there is a small minority following of Protestantism.
The capital and largest city of Paraguay is Asuncion which is located on the border of Argentina is home to over 1.2 million people. The Spanish word asuncion translates to assumption in English, and refers to the Assumption of Mary. Trinidad & Jesús is situated up on a hill and is Paraguay's most well preserved Jesuit settlement. Now a Unesco World Heritage Site, Jesús is an almost complete contruction of a Jesuit mission which was abandoned in 1767. Asuncion features the 19th century Catedral Metropolitana and it's museum housing sacred art as well as the Panteón de los Héroes which houses the remains of former president Panteón de los Héroes.
