Saint Kitts and Nevis is an island nation in the Leeward Islands, located in the Caribbean that gained independence from the United Kingdom in 1983. Saint Kitts and Nevis consists of three islands; The two main islands Saint Kitts and Nevis and the much smaller island Sombrero. Saint Kitts and Nevis has an estimated population of 40,000 people.

Saint Kitts is the largest and most populated of island of the nation and is home to around 30,000 people. Nevis is home to the remainder of the population of the nation as Sombrero is now uninhabited. The official language spoken in Saint Kitts and Nevis is English. The main religions in Saint Kitts and Nevis are Anglican, Roman Catholic and other Protestant religions. There is also a minority following of Rastafarianism. Basseterre is the capital city of Saint Kitts and Nevis and is situated on the Saint Kitts island.

Humidity are high during the summer months however the north east trade winds do cool the climate down. The annual average rainfall varies between 50 and 80 inches.

The main town of Saint Kitts is known as Basseterre while Charlestown is the main town in Nevis. Saint Kitts and Nevis are of volcanic origin and are filled with many mountains. The highest point of Saint Kitts and Nevis is known as Mount Liamuiga which means 'fertile land' and is located on the island of Saint Kitts. Mount Liamuiga rises to over 1,156 metres and was originally known as Mount Misery but was renamed in 1983. There are many small villages located on the mountain as far up as 460 metres. Most of the mountain is covered in tropical rainforests and is a popular desination for keen mountaineers.
