Soufriere which was Saint Lucia's original capital is a popular stopping point for many cruise ships. The town is fast becoming a popular holiday destination but is also known as a fishing village. Soufriere is particularly well known as being the birth place of Napoleon Boneparte's wife Josephine.
For those who are fit enough climbing the nearby Pitons is a great way experience the local surroundings. The Pitons are listed as a World Heritage Site with the highest piton being 771 metres in height. Of course climbing the Pitons is not the only way to enjoy Soufriere's volcanic plugs as they are also extremely impressive from ground level.
Because of Soufriere's close proximity to the coastline snorkelling and scuba diving are two of the towns most popular activities.
