The island group of Saint Pierre and Miquelon are ideally set within the North Atlantic Ocean. Miquelon which is thought to translate to the name Michael in the native Basque language,while Saint-Pierre is of course French for Saint Peter. There are eight islands in total within the archipelago with Saint-Pierre being the capital. Miquelon on the other hand is the largest out of the two at approximately 216 square kilometres. Saint-Pierre and Miquelon are closely neighboured by the island of Newfoundland, St John's and Nova Scotia.

Saint Pierre which was first first inhabited by the French and English in the 16th century is home to over six thousand residents with the majority living on Saint Peter. French is the official language spoken on the island group with Basque being the traditional native language.

Miquelon consists of three islands with Miquelon being the main island followed by Langlade and Le cap. Langlade is not inhabited but is visited by many each year during the summer months. Saint Pierre and Miquelon which are visited by many tourists each year and is a popular travel destination from nearby Canada.

Green Island belongs to Canada with the islands main feature being the islands lighthouse. Saint Pierre and Miquelon has a coastline of 120 kilometres and mostly consists of barren rock formations. The highest point of the island group is Morne de la Grande Montagne at 240 metres.
