General Information about Koh Samui

Thailand's island of Koh Samui that is ideally located within the Gulf of Thailand is the perfect setting for any holiday with its beautiful surroundings and relaxed environment. Koh Samui which is though to have been originally known as Pulo Cornam is well known as being the third largest island in Thailand.

Koh Samui which belongs to the province of Surat Thani and is surrounded by as many as sixty smaller islands which are known as the Ang Thong National Marine Park. Home to over 45,000 residents the main town on the island is the town of Nathon but the islands most popular destination can be found on the eastern side of the island known as Chaweng beach. Chaweng beach extends for seven kilometres and is here that you will find the majority of the islands hotels and restaurants.

There are many popular sights worth exploring while you are visiting Koh Samui with the most well known features being the Grandmother and Grandfather rocks located near Lamai Beach and the Big Buddha statue. Travelling to Koh Samui is simple with regular daily flights landing at the local airport but it is also possible to travel by ferry from Surat Thani.
