Carlsbad is located in the south west of the nation in the state of California. Calsbad is situated along on the seaside in the North County of San Diego and is the most expansive coastal city in that region. Carlsbad has a population of over 90,200 people. Carlsbad has been home to many famous names such as members of rock band Switchfoot, pro skateboader Tony Hawk and actress Autumn Reeser of the O.C.
There are many attractions and places of interest in Carlsbad such as Legoland California, Carlsbad Beaches, Carlsbad Skatepark, Museum of Making Music, Carlsbad Lagoon, the Flower Fields of Carlsbad Ranch, Smith-Shipley-Magee House and Plaza Ramino Real.
Legoland California is one of the most popular attractions in Carlsbad and is the third legoland to open, the first to be constructed outside of Europe. The amusement park opened in 1999 and features eight different sections- Dino Island, The Beginning, Pirate Shores, Imagination Zone, Miniland USA, Fun Town, Explore Village and Knight's Kingdom. Each section of the park follows a specific theme and features rides and attractions reflecting that theme.
The Flower Field at Carlsbad Ranch is the most visited place in Carlsbad. During different times of the year various flowers are in bloom. For six to eight weeks in April/March the fields are full of Ranunculus, then in May Sumflowers take the spot light. It is popular to visit the Fields near Christmas when a 166 foot star is made from poinsettias.
