Venezuela has a population of over 26 million people. The official language spoken in Venezuela is Spanish. Many indigenous languages are also spoken. Over 96% of the Venezuelan population are Roman Catholic. Venezuela's capital and largest city is Caracas which is situated in the north of the nation on the coast of the Caribbean Sea and is home to more than three million people.
The Los Roques Archipelago in the Caribbean Sea north of Caracas consist of almost 300 islands which are popular places to dive and snorkel. The Los Roques Archipelago and it's surrounding waters was proclaimed a national park in the 1970's and most of the islands are uninhabited except by wildlife. The Casa Natal de BolĂvar in Caracas was the house were Venezuelan hero Simon Bolivar was born in 1783. It is now a museum that features banners, uniforms, paintings and period weapons. Not too far away, the Museo Bolivariano houses many more personal relics belonging to the independence hero, including the coffin that brought his remains from Colombia back to his homeland.
